This Mexican Pageant Queen Was Stripped Of Her Title For Gaining Six Pounds

$

cynthia de la vegaCynthia de la Vega, 19, probably won't be going to the upcoming Miss World pageant.

That's because de la Vega, who took the first-runner-up spot in Mexico's top beauty contest this year, was recently stripped of her title -- for gaining six pounds.

Six.

(The country's first-place pageant winner goes to Miss Universe; second-place goes to Miss World.)

De la Vega was spotlighted on "Good Morning America" this morning in a segment that confirmed the pageant has denied weight gain was the reason for the move.

The real reason, according to the organization? Uh, "lack of commitment."

They presumably dropped the end of the original sentence: "to the treadmill."

Hopefully de la Vega won't go on to join the scandalous fates of these fallen beauty queens >>

Congratulations to 21-year-old Ivian Sarcos, who took home the (heavy) Miss World crown over the weekend.

Sarcos is a student (who spent five years in a nunnery!) and activist -- but more importantly, she chose an insanely over-the-top gown, and we're talking pageant terms here.

Good luck getting up, sweetie.

MEET OLIVIA CULPO: This Miss Rhode Island Was Just Crowned Miss USA 2012

Olivia-Culpo

While Olivia Culpo may come from the country's smallest state, she was the big winner at last night's 61st annual Miss USA Pageant.

The event was held at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas and was hosted by Andy Cohen and Giuliana Rancic. Guest judges included singer Joe Jonas, reality star Rob Kardashian, TV personality Arsenio Hall, and celebrity chef Cat Cora

The Rhode Island native, who describes herself as a "cellist and nerd," won over the judges with her bubbly personality, elegance and poise, and thought-provoking answer when asked if a transgender individual should be allowed to compete.

Her response? "I do think that that would be fair, but I can understand that people would be a little apprehensive to take that road because there is a tradition of natural-born women, but today where there are so many surgeries and so many people out there who have a need to change for a happier life, I do accept that because I believe it’s a free country."

The 20-year old Boston University sophomore will take a year off from school to fulfill her duties as Miss USA 2012. Later in December, she will follow in Alyssa Campanella's footsteps and represent the U.S. at the Miss Universe Pageant.

Earlier in the day, Olivia competed at the Kooey Swimwear Fashion show.

That night, Olivia answered this difficult question: "should a transgender individual be allowed to compete?" For the record, she says, ""I do think that that would be fair, but I can understand that people would be a little apprehensive ."

Olivia, a cellist and dean's list student at Boston University, walks the runway in the bikini competition for Miss USA 2012.

Donald Trump Says He's Going To Sue Miss Pennsylvania For Dissing His Pageant

Shenna Monnin

Donald Trump, the owner of the Miss USA pageant, told ABC's "Good Morning America" that he's going to be suing Miss Pennsylvania USA, Sheena Monnin, for calling the Miss Universe Organization "fraudulent" and "trashy" and accusing the competition of being "fixed."

"She made a very false charge and she knows it was a false charge," Trump said on GMA.  "She suffers from a thing called 'loser's remorse.'"

He called her allegations "totally ridiculous" and said that she should apologize.

Monnin resigned from her title earlier this week.

"If you looked at her compared to people who were in the top fifteen you would understand why she was not in the top fifteen," Trump said. (Burn!)

Here's what all the fuss is about. Monnin posted this on Monday on her Facebook account when she resigned.

I have decided to resign my position as Miss Pennsylvania USA 2012. Effective immediately I have voluntarily, completely, and utterly removed myself from the Miss Universe Organization. In good conscience I can no longer be affiliated in any way with an organization I consider to be fraudulent, lacking in morals, inconsistent, and in many ways trashy. I do not support this system in any way. In my heart I believe in honesty, fair play, a fair opportunity, and high moral integrity, none of which in my opinion are part of this pageant system any longer. Thank you all for your support and understanding as I walk a road I never dreamed I'd need to walk, as I take a stand I never dreamed I'd need to take. After 10 years of competing in a pageant system I once believed in, I now completely and irrevocably separate myself in every way and on every level from the Miss Universe Organization. I remove my support completely and have turned in the title of Miss Pennsylvania USA 2012.

MISS UNIVERSE JUDGE: 'The Pageant Is Not Fixed, But Trump Made It Clear Who He Would Vote For'

Shenna Monnin

The Daily's Richard Johnson, a former editor at Page Six and a three-time Miss Universe judge, says the beauty pageant is not fixed, but Donald Trump did make it clear to the judges who he would pick.

Johnson writes:

"Just in case a judge was indecisive, Trump was sitting right behind us in the front row, close enough to chat with us during commercial breaks, letting us know his preferences. Was he just making small talk, or trying to influence our votes? Did his voice carry more weight than any other fan who was applauding and shouting for their favorite? Probably. But the pageant wasn’t rigged. I voted for the contestant I thought was the most beautiful. Most of the time, Trump and I agreed. But not every time."

Last week, the owner of the Miss USA, Miss Teen USA and Miss Universe pageants, told ABC's "Good Morning America" that he's going to be suing (now former) Miss Pennsylvania USA, Sheena Monnin, for calling the Miss Universe Organization "fraudulent" and "trashy" and accusing the competition of being fixed.

Monnin posted on Facebook after the pageant that she thought it must be rigged because she said another contestant (Miss Florida Karina Brez) had seen the top 5 list the morning of the competition before the top 16 finalists were even announced that evening, according to FoxNews.com.

"She made a very false charge and she knows it was a false charge," Trump said on GMA.  "She suffers from a thing called 'loser's remorse.'"

He called her allegations "totally ridiculous" and said that she should apologize.

"If you looked at her compared to people who were in the top fifteen you would understand why she was not in the top fifteen," Trump said on GMA.

Monnin resigned from her title right after the Miss USA 2012 pageant.

Just this week, another Miss USA contestant, who spoke to FoxNews.com on the condition of anonymity,  backed up Monnin's claims saying she also heard Miss Florida reveal the top five finalists before the top 15 were even announced.

Former Miss Nevada Claims Police Busted Into Her Apartment And Made Her Get Out Of Bed Naked

caleche manos miss nevada 2007

Los Angeles County sheriff's officers stormed the wrong apartment, held two people at gunpoint, harassed them, and refused to offer an explanation, according to a lawsuit filed by the Miss Nevada 2007 winner.

Caleche Ranae Manos claims she and her fiance Eric Otto Ryder were asleep on the morning of Nov. 15, 2011 when sheriff's deputies mistakenly entered their apartment, according to Mano's lawsuit, which was first reported Wednesday by Courthouse News Service.

Deputies were carrying a search warrant for Apartment C but accidentally entered Manos' apartment, which was Apartment A, the lawsuit stated.

"At that time Ms. Manos was still in bed and was naked," her complaint stated. "The sheriff deputies, all of which were male and armed with guns, ordered Ms. Manos to get out of bed and then watched as she attempted to do so."

After a "significant amount of time," deputies realized their error but reportedly did not apologize to the couple.

Rather, police told the couple they would "have a story to tell others at Thanksgiving," Manos claims in her lawsuit.

In addition to seeking damages for negligence, false imprisonment, and civil rights and Constitution violations, Manos is accusing the deputies of sexual harassment, saying they only made her leave the bed because she's a woman.

Manos "suffered and continues to suffer emotional distress, humiliation, mental anguish, and embarrassment," as a result of the incident, according to her complaint.

24-Year-Old Miss America Contestant To Undergo Double Mastectomy

Allyn Rose Beauty Queen

Allyn Rose is a Washington, D.C. representative in the upcoming Miss USA pageant, a roller skating enthusiast, a model, a paralegal — and now she is going to be the recipient of a double mastectomy — all at the young age of 24.

The surgery is a preventative measure after Rose learned she is a carrier of the same rare chromosomal disease that her mother died of when the beauty queen was just 16-years-old.

"I had to become my own mentor. I had to go pick out my prom dress by myself. I had to go to my high school graduation without my mom," Rose tells People magazine of her life without her parent. "She didn't see me go off to college or go on my first date or drive a car for the first time."

And while Rose says her mother was "incredible," she doesn't want the same fate.

So, after January's Miss USA competition is complete, Rose will undergo the invasive surgery.

"The idea that I could wake up one day and not have the same body that I did the day before is very scary," Rose, a self-proclaimed former tomboy, told the magazine. "But I also realize my mom was diagnosed at 27. That's three years away from me. I'm not going to let my fear of losing this part of my femininity stop me from living."

Rose explains that the preventative surgery is something almost necessary for her to survive the potential disease diagnosis: "It manifests in male children, but there have been studies that women who are the carriers of it have almost a 75 percent likely chance of contracting breast cancer. It's a very strange change in our genetic code. Almost all of the women in my family have passed away from it."

"My mom had her right breast removed at 27, but at 47 or 48, it came back in her left breast," Rose continued. "It was already stage three. She could have had that other breast removed, but I'm sure there was a part of her that thought she didn't want to give up this other part of herself."

She adds, "My dad said he begged her for years and years to get it removed, but she said no. It's ultimately the thing that killed her."

Why speak out about her personal struggle? Rose, who idolizes famous breast cancer battlers Robin Roberts and Giuliana Rancic, says "Title holders across the country get an opportunity to speak to their generation and have something they can advocate ... To win the pageant would truly have my mother's dreams for me come to fruition."

Rose adds, "Being in the industry and competing in the most iconic swimsuit competition in the world, I thought to myself, 'If I were to win and have this surgery a year from now, would I be a different Miss America because I lost my breast?' No."

Donald Trump Wins $5M Legal Victory Over Miss USA Who Called Contest Fake

Donald Trump Miss USA pageant Sheena MonninDonald Trump didn't take it lightly when former Miss Pennsylvania Sheena Monnin went on a media blitz accusing Trump's Miss USA pageant of being rigged.

In June, Trump’s Miss Universe Organization sued Monnin for defamation after she alleged that the top five pageant finishers were selected before the show even started.

Trump had given the former pageant queen 24 hours to retract her statements, but she refused to do so.

The case went to arbitration and on Tuesday, a retired judge ruled that the beauty queen did, in fact, defame the organization, and awarded it $5 million in damages.

Trump, naturally, released a statement Tuesday on the matter (via TMZ):

“We cannot allow a disgruntled contestant to make false and reckless statements which are damaging to the many people who have devoted their hearts and souls to the Miss Universe, Miss USA and Miss Teen USA pageant systems. While I feel very badly for Sheena, she did the wrong thing. She was really nasty, and we had no choice. It is an expensive lesson for her.”

In June, Monnin talked to Ann Curry, standing by her claims: "I know what I heard and I know what I, in turn, witnessed come true based on the list the contestant saw...I believe her to be true."

The contestant who initially made the claims said she was joking, but Monnin says her "years of psychological training" led her to believe the contestant was serious and then back-tracked.

A Texas Tech Law Student Is Headed To The Miss America Pageant

texas tech law school beauty pageant

A Texas Tech School of Law student will try her hand at the country's biggest beauty pageant later this month.

DaNae Couch, a third-year student at the school, won the Miss Texas competition and will compete for the Miss America title on January 12, KFYO reported Thursday.

But despite her big beauty pageant dreams, Couch insists she still has a passion for law.

"I definitely want to practice law and I'm trying to figure out exactly what I want to do right now, but I really have a passion for litigation because I love the ability to use my speaking skills to help other people," Couch said in her Miss America contestant video.

And while some might scoff at the idea of a law student participating in a beauty pageant, the fact that Couch has earned nearly $30,000 worth of scholarships through the program is pretty impressive.

"And thanks to Miss America and thanks to my parents, I'll be able to graduate from both Baylor and from Texas Tech School of Law completely debt free," she said.

Couch's fans have until 1:59 a.m. on Jan. 11 to vote for her.

Mallory Hagan

Sorry, guys.

Newly crowned Miss America Mallory Hagan is off the market.

In fact, her boyfriend works at JPMorgan Chase.

The blonde beauty's beau, Charmel Maynard, is as an associate at the New York-based investment bank.

Maynard, 28, has been working at JPMorgan since 2007, FINRA records show.  The records also indicate that he did an internship there in 2006.

He attended Northfield Mount Hermon School in Massachusetts, according to FINRA.  He graduated from Amherst College.

Hagan, an Alabama native who moved to New York five years ago, was crowned Miss America on Saturday night wearing a stunning off-the-shoulder white gown.

What's more is Maynard seems really supportive of her being a pageant titleholder.

From the Associated Press:

Hagan's boyfriend Charmel Maynard said he knows that pageants are dismissed by some, but he hopes Hagan's willingness to take on the sexual abuse issue will lend legitimacy to her new role.

"I don't think it's taken seriously, but I think she's going to be a great ambassador and it could change," he said.

Here's a photo Hagan Instagrammed of the couple together.

Miss Delaware Teen USA Gives Up Crown After Sex Tape Surfaces

Melissa King Miss Teen Delaware

Miss Delaware Teen USA Melissa King has resigned her crown after allegedly starring in an amateur porn sex tape.

In a clip that has surfaced on porn sites online, the 18-year-old brunette first sits on a bed for an interview in which she answers questions about her age, occupation and why she wants to shoot the video.

The woman, who never gives her name, tells the camera she turned 18 in March. And according to the Miss Delaware Teen USA website, King's birthday is also in March.

“I thought it be fun and I needed the money,” the woman continues. “So I just decided to do it.”

When the interviewer asks about her pageant past, the woman responds, "I’ve done them, yes.”

The interviewer then asks her if she has told anyone about doing the porn video they were about to film, to which the woman replies, “It’s not a big secret. But I didn’t tell anybody specifically what I was doing.”

While King won the Miss Delaware Teen USA title in November, at the time the alleged porn video was shot she was the reigning Miss Teen Delaware International.

When King was later asked about the video in question on Monday, she denied it was her, saying "Absolutely not."

But by Tuesday, a pageant spokeswoman released a statement saying the teen queen had given up her crown: "I would like to confirm to you that the Miss Delaware Teen USA pageant has received a resignation letter from Miss King’s attorney."

A sad ending for the teen — a former foster child — who had "exceptionally high SAT scores, GPA, and AP scores," has "been a successful competitive gymnast since the age of 9," and "hopes to work for a prestigious fashion magazine in New York City or maybe on the sidelines of an NFL game as a sports journalist," according to her official bio.

Miss Teen USA 2007

Hedge fund manager Rishi Bajaj, who runs $620 million Altai Capital, has filed a lawsuit against his former beauty queen ex-girlfriend for allegedly spending tens of thousands of dollars on his credit card after they broke up last year, the New York Post reported.

Bajaj alleges that Miss New Mexico Teen USA 2007, Elizabeth "Liz" Kranz, spent $58,860 at furniture stores and high-end clothing stores such as Bergdorf Goodman, Barney's, Saks, Nordstrom, and Helmut Lang, the Post reported citing court papers.

The pair dated for "several months" beginning in July 2012, the report said. They traveled together, he gave her a $20,000 loan to help a relative go to rehab, and bought a 2012 BMW for them to share (she returned the car), the report said citing the court documents.

Kranz placed in the top 15 at the Miss Teen USA pageant in 2007. She was selected for Miss Congeniality (that's an award voted on by the pageant participants) two years running at her state pageant. You can see a pageant swimsuit photo of her here >

Miss Universe Canada Crowns Wrong Winner Due To Typo

Denise Garrido beauty queen

Miss Universe Canada made an epic fail Saturday night.

Denise Garrido, 26, was initially crowned Miss Universe Canada before she was stripped of her crown just 24 hours later — after a typo was discovered in the results tabulation.

“My reaction was shock and disbelief at the time, and I was so tired from a long day of photos and interviews that I didn’t know if I was hearing that correctly,’’ Garrido told Today.com. “I was a little bit embarrassed, thinking about how I would tell this to family and friends who were celebrating already."

However, Garrido says that “After stepping back and letting it sink in, it’s obvious that it actually was a blessing in disguise. If they had not made a mistake, I would’ve never experienced that moment, something I’ve always dreamed of. I don’t think I would’ve received as much attention if I won as I did with this error.’’

The mistake was discovered Sunday by a third-party audit that the pageant conducts every year.

Pageant director Denis Davila had to break the news to Garrido that a typo that occurred when the judges’ handwritten scores were entered into a computer program skewed the results.

Riza Santos Miss Universe CanadaThe new results crowned Riza Santos the actual winner, and Garrido third runner-up.

“It was highly embarrassing for Denise and the organization," Miss Universe Canada spokesperson Andrew Lopez told Today.com. "But when a mistake is made, you can either cover it up, or admit the mistake, and that’s what (Davila) did. At the end of the day, it’s a human mistake."

Garrido, for her part, is maintaining a positive outlook on the situation.

“I was meant to have that moment,’’ she said. “I was able to live the dream, and now it’s time for Riza to live it for the next year. I’ve received so much sympathy and compassion from people I don’t know, and I’m really touched by it. It has been a roller coaster of emotions, and now it’s onward and upward.”

A Finance Worker From Connecticut Was Just Crowned Miss USA

Erin Brady Miss USA

Miss Connecticut Erin Brady, who is originally from East Hampton and works in the financial services industry, was crowned Miss USA 2013 on Sunday night.

According to her bio on the Miss Connecticut website, she works as a Senior Accountant with Prudential Financial.

Brady beat out 50 other gorgeous women competing for the title at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas.  The pageant is co-owned by NBC and Donald Trump.

For the opening number, Brady grabbed the audience's attention on the catwalk in a fun and bright green dress.

For the evening gown portion of the competition, she took the stage in a stunning and sophisticated white gown with glittering gold bodice and train.

During the question part of the competition, she was asked if she agreed or disagreed with a Supreme Court ruling that criminal suspects could be subjected to a DNA test and to explain why or why not.

"I would agree this," she responded. "I think if somebody's being prosecuted and they committed a crime that's that severe then they should have a DNA test. I think that there are so many crimes going on in this world that if that's one step closer to figuring out who's done it, I think we absolutely should do so."

She graduated from Central Connecticut State University.

Miss Utah Falls Apart While Answering An Easy Question About Women Earning Less Than Men

Miss Utah Marissa Powell

Miss Utah Marissa Powell, who looked stunning in a white strapless evening gown at the Miss USA pageant, bombed her final onstage question last night at the Planet Hollywood Casino & Resort in Las Vegas.

"Real Housewives of Atlanta" star/Miss USA judge NeNe Leakes asked Powell, who was named the most photogenic at the pageant, to answer the following question:

"A recent report shows that in 40% of American families with children, women are the primary earners, yet they continue to earn less than men.  What does this say about society?"

This is a great question, and something you'd expect a Miss USA candidate to be well-prepared for.  It's part of a much larger discussion that has been going on for a long time now and it's a great opportunity for a Miss USA contestant to totally nail it.

Here's Miss Utah's incoherent response, though:

"I think that we can relate this back to education and how we are continuing to try to strive to...figure out how to create jobs right now, that is the greatest problem. I think especially the men are, um, seen as the leaders of this so we need to try to figure out how to create education better so we can solve this problem.

You can really see the heartbreak and disappointment in Powell's eyes in the video posted below.  She clearly knew she messed it up.

Even Host Giuliana Rancic said a sympathetic "Thank you, sweetheart" when Powell finished her answer.

Keep in mind, though, that these ladies generally spend over a year preparing for the pageant.  It's not easy.

What's more they have spent an exhausting two weeks in Vegas packed with red carpet events, photo shoots, restaurant and club outings, charity work and the preliminary competition (swim wear, evening gown and interviews) prior to the live competition.

Once they've made it into the top ten, all of their hard work and dreams come down to the final question, which is aired on live television to an audience of millions.
